Affordable Care Act News: Deadline Extension for Employer Reporting Requirements

ACA Employer Reporting Requirements Delayed: via CBG BenefitsOn December 28th, 2015, the IRS announced that they will be extending the due dates regarding the Affordable Care Act’s employer reporting requirements (Section 6055 and Section 6056).

  • The due date for furnishing forms to individuals has been extended from Feb. 1, 2016, to March 31, 2016.
  • The due date for filing forms with the IRS has been extended from Feb. 29, 2016, to May 31, 2016 (or, from March 31, 2016, to June 30, 2016, if filing electronically).

The IRS is encouraging employers that must meet the reporting compliance requirement (primarily, applicable large employers — employers with 50 or more full-time employees, including full-time equivalents, in the previous year) to furnish statements and file information returns as soon as they are ready.

The new deadlines are more generous than prior extensions and apply automatically to all reporting entities. No request or additional documentation is required.

We encourage all clients to log-in to CBGconnect and download our Compliance Bulletin for more information about this deadline extension.
