In the 15 years since I helped start CBG Benefits, bringing technology solutions to Human Resources departments has always been a major initiative on my task list.
However, I also know that it can be overwhelming for employers to stay on top of what’s available.
To help in that regard, I want to highlight a few technology trends in HR that were listed in a recent article published by Employee Benefits News.
The article highlighted the results of a recent employer-focused survey. Here are a few items that caught my eye :
- Mobile Tools: 46% of respondents are currently using mobile tools for HR transactions
- Online Portals: 60% of respondents have a HR portal in place
- Self-Service Tools: Three quarters of the respondents are using manager self-service tools
Of course, simply because the majority (or near-majority) of survey respondents have adopted a certain technology approach does not mean that it’s the right one for your business.
How Does Process-Change Impact Your Technology Decisions?
When deciding whether to implement a technology solution at your company, key factors such as budget, employee accessibility, infrastructure needs, training requirements, and others must be carefully weighed out.
But one factor that should not be used to prevent the adoption of technology is this one — “it will change a process that we’ve had in place for years“.
However, while it is certainly wise to measure the impact that a learning curve and transition period would have on your business, it’s important to honestly assess whether technology can save your company time and money in the long run. It’s also important to analyze whether technology will make life easier for your workforce.
If the answer to those questions is yes, then it may be time to invest in mobile tools, online portals, self-service systems, and other technology-driven solutions.
