Does your company provide health coverage under a self-insured plan? If so, you will certainly want to be aware of an upcoming Health Care Reform-related deadline regarding PCORI.
The deadline for employers to report and pay PCORI fees is July 31st, 2013.
What Are They and Who is Responsible
These fees were implemented to help fund the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, which was created by the Affordable Care Act. The party responsible for paying the PCORI fees depends on whether the plan is insured or self-insured.
- For insured health plans, the issuer of the health insurance policy is required to pay the research fees.
- For self-insured health plans, the research fees are to be paid by the plan sponsor.
