We’d like to thank everyone that attended our most recent seminar in Burlington, Massachusetts on May 6th, 2015.
There was no doubt that the theme of the event, “HR Compliance Update: Understanding and Meeting Your Requirements“, was a popular one, as the seminar room at the Burlington Marriott was filled to capacity.
Our two keynote speakers at the event were David Wilson, Founding Partner at Hirsch Roberts Weinstein, and Deirdre Savage, Senior Director of Federal and National Relations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
Massachusetts’ Employment Law Update
David Wilson primarily centered his presentation on many of the new laws in Massachusetts regarding employee leave. This includes:
He did a tremendous job of engaging the audience to help them understand how these laws may apply to their business, as his presentation incorporated multiple videos and interactive skits. The skits, which required participation by audience members, were used to illustrate various scenarios involving employee leave that employers may run into.
David’s presentation also incorporated a quiz that enabled attendees to gauge their understanding of the various laws discussed throughout the presentation.
In addition, David provided an update on steps that employers may need to take as implementation of the state’s laws regarding medical marijuana move forward.
Affordable Care Act Update
Deirdre Savage’s presentation focused on the Affordable Care Act.
Deirdre referenced a number of key court cases that are currently open that may impact implementation of various aspects of the law. She also provided insight on the Cadillac Tax, changes to small-group classification, and the “Pay or Play” requirements.
Deirdre also provided reminders about deadlines that are quickly approaching regarding the Employer Reporting Requirements, which primarily involve employers filling out Form 1094-C and Form 1095-C.
In addition to the two keynote presentations, members of the senior management team at CBG Benefits also spoke at the seminar. This included Principals Chris Costello, Steve Costello, and Dan Costello, as well as Senior Vice President, Ted Haughey.
They provided insight on the evolving HR and Benefits landscape, and they also shared a number of compliance tools and resources that were being made available to all attendees.
Finally, we had the opportunity to reward a few lucky attendees with some great raffle prizes. Congratulations to all of the winners — including the grand prize winner, who took home a Microsoft Surface Pro 3!
