A Look at the Numbers

According to a report recently released by Fidelity Management and Research, twice as many midsize employers offer wellness incentives than in 2010.

Here are the specific numbers from the study regarding that segment:

  • 38 percent of mid-market employers offered wellness-based incentives in 2010
  • 77 percent of mid-market employers plan to offer wellness-based incentives in 2013
  • 45% of employers in the mid-market plan to offer average incentives of more than $500 per employee

Why Wellness Incentives are on the Rise

As health care costs rise, employers are recognizing that by encouraging their workforce to lead a healthier lifestyle, they can better manage their financial situation.

Also, as implementation of the Affordable Care Act moves forward, companies will have more flexibility in terms of health-contingent wellness programs as well as the maximum size of the reward that they offer.
